I get occasional updates from an auction house where I registered as a bidder a while back. I was looking for a cheap beater from a municipal auction.
Little did I know that wasn’t going to happen. Here in Charlotte, at least the last time I went, beater 2001 Cavaliers were going for dealer retail prices ($3400 with 100k miles). At auction. Seriously.
Anyway, they sent me !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Which contains these:
That gray ‘86 has a bonus:
And finally:
All the Brit Kitties are said to run, but each has some small problem in the description. If I could get one of the XJS convertibles for under $1500 I would tell my wife she’s getting a JAAAAAAG. But I know that won’t happen so I won’t bother.

oh no no no, what a terrible temptation. Dang I want them all

I’d love that E-Type. I prefer it in grey to any other color.

Imagine a mechanic who specializes in British cars running across that list. There’s at least what? 25 or 30 boat payments worth of repairs in there?

Looks like a ‘67-68. I can’t see the ad from here, but I’m guessing it’s an automatic.

Surprisingly enough, the ad says that it’s a 1968 4 speed manual with just under 79k miles. Extremely tempting if I do say so myself.

Cavaliers are the southern redneck what I drive when I’m not driving my bro dozer car of choice, right?

The only offered the automatic in the long wheelbase 2+2, so it’s a good chance it had one.
I can’t see the price or any of the other details, but the reason it’s tempting is that it’s a 2+2.

They populate trailer parks now like beat-up 80something G-bodies did in the 90s.

That’s performance data from a series I coupe :)

Red one’s a late series Convertible. Jump on that, they aren’t common in red.

Give me the E-Type and no one gets hurt!

The international measure of a mechanics estimate: boat payments :)

If Tom & Ray taught us anything, they taught us that.

Heh, gullible I guess :) but the photo does show a manual, unless the Jags had very manual-looking autos
![]() 10/31/2016 at 16:29 |

It is a manual. The power was down by the time the series 1.5 came along, and with the added weight of the 2+2, it would have never hit those numbers anyways.
And I don’t think there was ever a factory E-Type that would do 150. Coventry proved ONE of them would do 150, but that was a lot of back room sneaky work on one of their first cars to make it happen.

Yep. I miss that show.

Oddly enough, the reruns contain calls I haven’t heard (or forgot that I did ...).
![]() 11/01/2016 at 11:08 |

Fortunately there were so many, it’s impossible to have heard and remember them all.

Not sure if you know, but I actually wrote bits for the show (and was paid in t-shirts - it is NPR). I told Doug Berman that he should program some of the early calls, when they weren’t nationwide, just on WBUR.
Also, Doug had Ray call me, and we talked for about half an hour. He is exactly as he is off the radio as he is on it ... love that guy.

That makes you the most famous person I know ;)

Tenafly, matzoh bri, ham on rye ... stop on by! My Bugsy bit ... and some others. Hearing my words come out of Ray’s mouth ... just the best thing ever.
